Multiple road closures will be in place in Braddon for more than a month as part of efforts to upgrade Canberra’s ageing water network. The eastern side of the Mort Street and Elouera Street roundabout, parts of southbound lanes of Mort Street and parts of Elouera Street in both directions will be closed from 9am on Wednesday until April 30. The road closures will be in place to allow Icon Water to carry out water mains repairs as part of a renewal program. While pedestrians will be able to move through the affected area, sections of the footpath will be closed. Businesses in the area have been notified of potential disruptions during the more than five weeks of works. “The current mains renewal program is part of an ongoing investment program that aims to upgrade ageing pipes in the region to maintain water quality and flow and minimise the risk of water failures,” an Icon Water spokesman said. The road closures due to water issues comes as multiple roads across Canberra were closed to traffic due to flood conditions in the region. As of Wednesday morning, Coppins Crossing, Uriarra Crossing, Oaks Estate Crossing, Point Hut Crossing, Paddys River Road, Corin Road and crossings in the Namadgi National Park have been closed to traffic. Dudley Street in Yarralumla between Novar Street and Kent Street has also been closed, along the Cotter Road. The Yarralumla road closures are expected to be in place for at least the next 24 hours.
