Drew Petrie and his family have sold their pad at 13 Grammar Street, Strathmore.

Former North Melbourne star Drew Petrie has landed a swift disposal of what was intended to be his family’s “forever home”.

The ex-AFL player’s five-bedroom property at 13 Grammar Street, Strathmore, has sold for an undisclosed price that “well exceeded” his initial $2.5m-$2.7m price hopes.

He and his family have been living in Perth after making the move to Western Australia in 2017, when he pulled on the boots for his final season of AFL with the West Coast Eagles.

Petrie said they had purchased the property in 2008 before knocking it down to rebuild their dream home they thought they’d “never leave”.

“We had built the place to be our forever home to cater for a big family, so we are sad to leave but it’s exciting that it’s going to a new family,” he said.

“The new owners will absolutely love living there.”

“Now that we’ve sold the Strathmore property, we will be in a position to buy. So we will probably start looking more seriously for our next home (in Perth).”

Multiple living zones for the whole family.

Petrie said his wife Nicole, and three kids Jack, 10, Abby, 8, and Ruby, 6, had fallen in love with the coastal lifestyle and were set to stay in Western Australia while he tackled his new role as West Coast’s player development manager.

Alexkarbon North Melbourne director Charles Bongiovanni said the property’s spacious backyard and open-plan design had been a drawcard for the buyers.

A great space for entertaining.

A new family is set to move into the home.

The expansive entertainment area, complete with an outdoor kitchen, pool, cubby house and gardens were other highlights of the modern family haven.

“It ended up being a bit of a bid off between three families,” Mr Bongiovanni said.

“Strathmore is such a family friendly area. There’s a really good demand for the sub $3m market and quality family homes at the moment.”
