Hawthorn’s triple premiership wingman Isaac Smith will join Geelong as a free agent, according to a source with knowledge of the player’s decision.
Smith, 32 in December, had also been offered a three-year deal by Melbourne but chose the Cats in part for lifestyle reasons and an interest in living in the Geelong area.
The Hawks will receive little or no compensation for Smith given his age and the fact that they are getting Kyle Hartigan, also a free agent, from Adelaide – which offsets the compensation to Hawthorn.
