Halloween looks a little different in Washington, D.C. this year. There are pumpkins on stoops, rose bushes strung with spiderwebs, and plastic skeletons dangling from eaves. But there are also garden signs which read THANK YOU DR FAUCI and, around the corner from me, a giant inflated Uncle Sam with a fly swatter in his hand and a surgical mask strung across his rictus. (The swatter is a reference to the recent vice-presidential debate, where a persistent fly took up residence on VP Mike Pence’s hair and provided a distraction to a nation desperately in need of one.)
