She said the success of the summer will be measured by no loss of life, limited property damage and responding to those who call for help.

Commissioner York is not only the first female head of the SES in its 65-year history; she’s also the first female head of any NSW emergency agency.

“Getting to be the first female Commissioner… I am so proud of that,” she said. “[I’m] sad that there hasn’t been one before me anywhere, but it’s great that we’ve broken through.”
