Gold Coast District Chief Superintendent Mark Wheeler said on Monday police had gained plenty of experience from previous border adjustments and they expected long delays.
“Particularly this time of the year, going into November and December, we would be expecting people to come up and holiday,” he said.
“And of course there are people who, for months and months, haven’t been able to visit Queensland and see relatives and friends.”
In July, peak delays reached up to an hour as drivers queued at the Gold Coast waiting to enter Queensland.
