Queensland has come from behind to win a gruelling State of Origin Game I 18-14 over New South Wales at Adelaide Oval.
Trailing 10-0 at half time after two quick-fire tries from Damien Cook and Josh Addo-Carr, the Maroons hit back with two tries of their own at the start of the second period.
After looking directionless in attack during the opening 40, the Maroons’ ferocious defence helped Queensland peg the Blues back in their own half before AJ Brimson and Xavier Coates crossed to put the Maroons ahead.
Revitalised, Queensland’s defensive pressure increased, and when Daniel Tupou lost the ball in midfield, Cameron Munster stabbed the ball forward with his toe to score in the corner.
The Blues were not done though, with Addo-Carr finishing a scintillating attacking move to touch down in the right corner with five minutes remaining.
However, Cleary missed the sideline conversion and, despite Felise Kaufusi being sent to the bin, the Blues could not breach the Maroons defence again.
More to come.

QUEENSLAND HOLDS ON TO WIN!!!!
That is one of the most unlikely wins I’ve ever seen from a Queensland team. What a stunning comeback.
The Maroons exploded to start the second half and some pieces of brilliance and resilience saw them run over the top of their more fancied rival somehow.
Kurt Capewell’s second half was a sight to behold of course, but Jai Arrow needs to receive just as much praise. He looked like Artie Beetson the way he was running and moving out there. Along with Dane Gagai, he’s one of those guys who just seems to live for the Origin arena.

STATE OF ORIGIN I at Adelaide Oval

Daly Cherry-Evans is man of the match
Probably fair. He had a decent first half as well, which not many Queenslanders did.

The last moments
The final minute was a bit hectic, so I’ll just break that down for a second.
After the Blues’ scrum 30m out, they were fart-arsing around in the middle of the park with a couple of inside balls.
They then tried something down the right and Ben Hunt and Cameron Munster, both playing out of position, shut it down. But Felise Kaufusi, going full Storm, lay all over the tackle intentionally and was rightly sin-binned.
That gave the Blues 15 seconds to get the game-winner and they spun it left, where Tedesco was eventually brought down in a dominant tackle by Dane Gagai and Daly Cherry-Evans. Josh Papalii, Jaydn Su’a and I think Jake Friend got involved in the tackle and Tedesco appeared to get the play-the-ball in before the hooter, but the ref blew full-time.
Boyd Cordner was less than pleased. And he may have good reason too. Seemed like the Blues should’ve had one more shot against the 12-man defence.

80th minute: Blues working on the middle.
Hunt and Munster make try-savers!
FELISE KAUFUSI IS SIN BINNED!! It’s the grand final all over again.
Queensland’s hanging around in the last tackle. BUT IT’S ALL OVER! The Maroons win!!
By Jon Healy
79th minute: Coates shuts down the left-side raid. But he knocked it on in shutting down the overlap. So NSW will reload from 30m out.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they got over here.
By Jon Healy
78th minute: The Maroons tried to just pin them in the corner. But it was a forward pass. Blues have to go 85 metres.
By Jon Healy
77th minute: Capewell is off. Ben Hunt is in the centres. Well. Good luck mate.
Oh no. They’ve moved Munster out to the centres.
The Blues try to attack too early, but it wasn’t on. The Maroons manned up and bundled Addo-Carr into touch when he ran out of room.

NSW HITS BACK THROUGH ADDO-CARR!!
The Blues went back at Capewell’s side. Yep, Gutherson got outside Capewell easily and put Addo-Carr over in a flash.
I don’t know what Queensland can do, but I reckon Coen Hess might be heading to that centre spot soon.
Cleary misses the kick! Queensland leads 18-14 with five minutes left.
By Jon Healy
76th minute: The Blues are right on the attack and DCE makes a try-saving tackle on his opposing skipper as they attack down the left.

74th minute: Another meat-and-potatoes set from Queensland ends with Munster booting the ball into touch. NSW will start their set on their 10m line with a scrum.
The Maroons are trying to apply the pressure, but Su’a’s hurt himself in a tackle.
And Addo-Carr and Wighton break down both flanks to give NSW a shot!
KURT CAPEWELL!! He flew highest for a classic Cleary kick into no man’s land. He’ really carrying that groin after jumping for the kick though. Anyway, Queensland to drop it out.
I imagine NSW will target the Panther.

72nd minute: Josh Addo-Carr is unleashed down the right! He chips and chases, but Phillip Sami gets there to save the day and force the knock-on. What a hero play.
Memories…

71st minute: DCE and Jaydn Su’a combine! But Su’a can’t find Gagai, wwho would’ve been in!
Unfortunate not to complete the magic, but that was a stunning pass from Cherry-Evans and great line from Su’a. Just couldn’t get the offload in the right spot.

70th minute: Munster and DCE make crucial tackles on both sides of the field.
And Cherry-Evans is away! He’s wrapped up after running 40m after swooping on a lost ball from NSW from a bomb.
By Jon Healy
69th minute: The Maroons again complete after points and try to pin NSW in their own half, but Saifiti won’t be held.
The Blues get into Queensland territory on the last, but play stops because Christian Welch is very concussed.
Jai Arrow returns to the field. Must have been a short rest.
Queensland looked in trouble at the back end of their set, but Arrow and then Kaufusi got the moving in the right direction. Still, NSW is over halfway on the third.

MUNSTER IS IN!
Daniel Tupou lost the ball in the middle of the field and Cameron Munster scooted through to soccer it through.
Munster looked every bit a man with some knee injuries under his belt as he was getting mown down by Cook, but he swerved and weaved held Cook off to touch down.
This has been a miracle of a half from the Maroons.
DCE slots another sideline conversion. Queensland, and I cannot stress this enough, leads 18-10 in the final 15 minutes.
By Jon Healy
66th minute: Gagai tries one piece of magic too many, offloading straight to Saifti.
By Jon Healy
64th minute: The Blues are making metres through Cook again. He’s like trying to tackle a block of granite.
And Saifiti goes again. He’s been monstrous tonight.
Coates makes a stunning grab. Gutsy coming forward, knowing he was going to get smashed. And he sure was, by Wighton.
By Jon Healy
63rd minute: Kurt Capewell nabs an intercept! The Blues were trying razzle dazzle, but they were doing it statically, which is dangerous. And Capewell read it perfectly and pounced. What a half he’s having.
By Jon Healy
62nd minute: Cody Walker is out there now.
