A Canberra couple are in for an early retirement after scoring more than $500,000 in the lottery. The pair were holidaying in Queensland where they bought the winning ticket in the Saturday Gold Lotto and were one of 11 division one winners taking home $549,405.38. They told The Lott officials that the cash would go to paying off their mortgage and helping out their kids and might allow them to retire a little early. “We’re thrilled! We checked the ticket yesterday,” the Lott said the woman told them. “I was sitting on the bed; thank goodness because it popped up on my screen that we’d won division one. “I was yelling expletive after expletive after expletive. “We thought there was no way it was right. My husband double-checked it on his phone as well. “We still can’t believe it. What a holiday. The ticket was purchased at Mt Sheridan Newspower. Co-owner Tash Grace told The Lott it was an exciting win just before Christmas.
