A P-plate driver reached speeds of almost 200km/h told officers he was “running late for a job interview”, police say. NSW police said the officers detected a Mazda 3 sedan doing 199km/h on the Federal Highway at Wollogorang about 10.45am on Thursday. The car was 109km/h above the 90km/h speed limit. “After a short pursuit the vehicle, travelling northbound, was stopped just prior to the Hume Highway. The male driver, the only person in the car, allegedly told officers he was running late for a job interview,” police said in a statement. The 20-year-old driver, from Mascot, was charged with driving recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and speeding by more than 45km/h. His license has been suspended and he will be summonsed to appear before court next year. For faster access to the latest Canberra news, download The Canberra Times app for iOS and Android.
