A bomb-detection robot has been deployed into Civic Library after a suspicious package was found which forced several buildings in Civic Square to be evacuated. The Legislative Assembly was forced to close its public entrance and emergency services to blocked off the area just after 12.30pm. A bomb detection robot has been deployed into Civic Library, after several buildings were evacuated on Wednesday afternoon, as police responded to the incident. London Circuit between Northbourne Avenue and Akuna St has been closed to cars and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area. The Assembly was not evacuated and it is expected parliament will go ahead with question time due to start at 2pm. The Canberra Times understands the buildings opposite in the precinct remain off limits. In a statement, ACT Policing said they were responding to an incident in the precinct. “Several buildings in the area have been evacuated as a precaution,” a spokesman said. “London Circuit has not been closed, however motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area if possible as there may be congestion and delays. “There is no threat to the wider community.”
