A rundown shack at Ryde with shag pile carpets, a Smurfs blue bathroom and a kitchen falling apart has sold for $1.411 million.
The result for 29 John Miller St was $311,000 above the reserve and came after five of the eight registered bidders participated.

Ray White North Ryde/ Macquarie Park agent Ben Boutros said the opening bid was smack bang on the reserve.
He added the result was a classic example of the power of an auction.
“The hammer was just about to fall in the mid-$1,300,000 but a fresh bidder came in from nowhere to push the price up further,” he said.
The property sold to a local mother who plans to plans to renovate the property. She was one of 60 groups that inspected the Ryde home during the campaign.
“Blank canvasses, where someone can come in and really put their mark on the property are proving popular at the moment,” Mr Boutros said.
The three-bedroom had an original Smurfs blue bathroom with retro tiles, an outdated kitchen and a loungeroom with shag pile carpet.
Near popular schools and transport options, the property also had a lockup garage and a level lawn.
More than 60 groups inspected the property during the campaign.

The Saturday morning auction for 11/302 Burns Bay Rd attracted seven young buyers and sold for $107,000 above the price guide.
Belle Property Lane Cove agent Tim Holgate said while the unit market is tough, apartments that are priced well and in good condition are still highly sought-after.
