news, crime,
Police will search a pine plantation on Tuesday morning in the unsolved murder of a Canberra woman almost 50 years ago. Keren Rowland was found dead in the Fairbairn pine plantation after she went missing on February 26, 1971 on the night of the Canberra Show. Earlier that night, police say the 20-year-old had gone to Civic to pick up her sister and go to a party in Deakin. Her sister later decided to get a lift with someone else and Ms Rowland planned to meet them at the party. She never arrived and was reported missing by her family about midnight. Ms Rowland’s car was later found on Parkes Way, Campbell with no fuel in the tank. Her remains were discovered at the Air Disaster Memorial nearly three months later on May 13, 1971. The cause of death has never been established. Police urge anyone with any information, no matter how small, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.
