Total Reported Deaths to July 5th are 129,576 including 271 New Deaths in the last 24 hours.
Nationally, levels of COVID-19 illness are increasing in most regions. The overall cumulative COVID-19 hospitalization rate is 102.5 per 100,000, with the highest rates in people aged 65 years and older (306.7 per 100,000) and 50-64 years (155.0 per 100,000).
At the start of March 2020, only 70 cases had been reported in the United States, most of them tied to overseas travel.
However, through initial missteps with testing, slack enforcement of wearing masks, social distancing and in May the early reopening of the economy, all 50 states and several US territories now have reported cases of COVID-19. At the time of writing, July 5th, 38 States have a rising number of cases, 14 states remain steady and in only 2 states, cases are falling (Rhode Island and New Hampshire).

As the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases approaches 3 million and deaths will probably exceed 130,000 by the time you read this, the economic and fiscal fallout intensifies – there is no longer a clear agreement on how the United States should proceed.
During the initial terrifying phase of the crisis, from early February to the end of March, both sides of America’s partisan divide came together to approve more than $US2.3 trillion in support for what most believed would be a serious but relatively brief downturn.
There was widespread unity on the need to order most businesses to close and ensure social distancing as a way to curb the spread of the virus and avoid overwhelming the country’s medical system.
But with the crisis now headed into its sixth month, patience is wearing out as the Presidential election looms closer and the Republican and Democratic parties see a need to differentiate themselves
On fiscal support, Republicans are negative about calls for even more rounds of spending as signs that extreme economic damage indicate the return to “normal” is likely to take many years.
