Each week, Sunday Life’s beauty director Stephanie Darling roadtests a different makeup or skincare trend to find out whether it’s worth your time. Ahead, a muscle-stimulating treatment for your core, and holiday kits.
Road Test
Stephanie Darling roadtests a muscle-stimulating treatment to strengthen her core.
The lowdown I was intrigued when I heard about the TeslaFormer, a device that uses Functional Magnetic Stimulation to induce up to 50,000 muscle contractions a session. It aims to stimulate and build muscle tissue and help reduce fat – while you simply lie there. I am trialling it on my tummy to build my core strength. (There is also a TeslaChair that targets pelvic floor muscles and helps with incontinence as well as lower back pain.) Paddles are strapped to my abdomen – sometimes one paddle is used, sometimes two – and my therapist hits the start button. The initial jolt of energy is pretty intense as my muscles contract, but I quickly get used to the sensation.
