Brisbane commuters continue to shun public transport, with many planning to use their cars instead, despite Queensland’s success in squashing community transmission of COVID-19.
The legacy of the virus has been detailed in an Infrastructure Australia report, due to be released on Wednesday, called Infrastructure beyond COVID-19: A national study on the impacts of the pandemic on Australia.
It reveals public transport patronage has not recovered across the country, including in Brisbane, where the number of journeys has dropped to 70 per cent of pre-COVID levels in February.
More than 13 per cent of Brisbane residents surveyed said they planned to use their private vehicles more than before COVID, while 6 per cent planned to buy a car.
