Police have shot an allegedly armed man on foot on the Logan Motorway, which has closed the eastbound lanes and is expected to cause “extensive” delays for the morning peak-hour.

Emergency services were called to the motorway in Drewvale, on the outskirts of Brisbane’s southside, just after 6am on Thursday.

Police have confirmed officers were responding to calls regarding a traffic hazard when they were allegedly confronted by an armed man, who was by himself and on foot.

Police said officers shot him on the Logan Motorway and his condition was unconfirmed.

A police spokesman said the incident has resulted in a traffic “nightmare” with the area cordoned off to allow for the investigation to begin into the ongoing incident.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed paramedics were called to the scene in Drewvale about 6.15am, but could not confirm any information about the man’s condition.

Police have urged eastbound motorists to find alternate routes to the Logan Motorway.
