One of the girls died in hospital while the other is fighting for life in an intensive care unit with her family at her bedside. Police were called to the Meriton suites on Church St in Parramatta about 10:45pm on Friday after multiple triple-0 calls about teenage girl suffering stab wounds in the foyer.

“Upon arrival they found a 17-year-old female with wounds to her abdomen,” Parramatta police crime manager Detective Inspector Thomas Barnes said. “She was conveyed to Westmead Hospital where she received treatment and underwent surgery. “She is currently in the ICU in a critical but stable condition with members of her family by her side.”Police then went upstairs to one of the apartment rooms and found a second 17-year-old girl with multiple stab wounds. Officers and paramedics performed CPR before she was rushed to Westmead Hospital. She died last night.Just after 2am, a 19-year-old boy turned up to Parramatta Police Station with his father and was arrested.

“I can’t comment on what the male may or may not have said to police other than to say he is assisting us with our enquiries,” Insp Barnes said. It is understood the man may have been in a relationship with one of the teenage girls. Insp Barnes said “that is yet to be confirmed” and the focus was on the 17-year-old girl still in hospital.“And obviously the parents of the child that is deceased are clearly grieving the loss of a daughter, a sister in the lead up to Christmas,” he said. “As a consequence police are obviously allowing them the time to process what happened and we will speak to them as soon as we can.”Police believe the 19-year-old and the two girls, who were all from Sydney, were the only people in the apartment room on Friday night. .
