news, latest-news, christmas day baby, baby born december 25 2020, dante, brenay warner
Dante will always have a proper birthday party. His mother, Brenay Warner, promised that. She knows what it’s like to be overlooked for presents and parties because the birthday falls too close to Christmas – and in Dante’s case, on the day itself. “I was December 21, so it was always, ‘make sure that the presents are separated’.” She thinks it might be that Christmas mornings in future will be designated as Dante’s birthday and the rest of the day as Christmas Day. On the day of his birth (at 4am by caesarean section), Dante (3.2 kilos) seemed unconcerned. He slept and slept on his mother’s chest at Canberra Hospital. “He’s just relaxed and chilled. He’s beautiful. He’s been a gem,” the mother said. Dante was chosen as a name by agreement between mother and father, but for different reasons. According to Brenay, one of the favourite characters in a game which father, Shaun, plays is called Dante. But the mother loves the great, three volume, 14th century epic poem by Dante Alighieri, “The Divine Comedy”. It’s in Italian but Brenay reads it in a parallel translation. She was looking for something to read one day and she just picked it up and couldn’t stop. She plans to read the Greek classics by Homer next. Dante is going to have a literary up-bringing.
