A woman who allegedly led police on a car chase in the early hours of Monday morning and was Tasered as she tried to climb through the window of a getaway car has been locked up. Kaylah Louise Maxine Cook, 27, appeared in the Magistrates Court on Monday charged with failing to stop for police, driving a stolen vehicle, dangerous driving and other traffic related charges. Ms Cook has not entered pleas to the charges but was refused bail due to concerns she could commit further offences. A second woman, Rosemary May Rix, 22, of Belconnen, was granted bail on Monday after allegations we was the passenger in the vehicle allegedly driven by Ms Cook. In documents tendered to the court, police allege Ms Cook drove a stolen black Hyundai Tucson past officers on Wakefield Avenue, Dickson. Discovering the car bore allegedly stolen licence plates, police activated their lights and sirens, following which Ms Cook allegedly sped away from the police car. The officers opted not to pursue the vehicle but later encountered it again on Antill Street when they gave chase until Ms Cook allegedly drove onto the wrong side of the road and accelerated. Police encountered the vehicle at various locations, primarily on Horse Park Drive and the Federal Highway, pursuing it when it was safe to do so. The car was estimated at reaching speeds of 140 kilometres per hour and police attempted to use tyre spikes several times, successfully puncturing two tyres. About 1am, the car stopped abruptly outside the Hackett shops and police allegedly saw Ms Cook and Ms Rix exit the vehicle and try to enter a silver Kia Sportage parked nearby and driven by a third person. When the rear door wouldn’t open, Ms Cook allegedly tried to climb through a partially open window, during which time police Tasered her and arrested both women. The driver of the second vehicle sped away. Magistrate Beth Campbell said she had little confidence Ms Cook could be trusted to abide by bail conditions and remanded her in custody. Ms Campbell granted bail for Ms Rix, albeit noting she was somewhat reluctant to do so. Both are due back in court in February.
