We could ask to send this result upstairs, except that on the evidence of the workings of DRS, it would make no more sense in review than it did on the field. That is not to minimise India’s heroics, but instead to pay dues to the improbability of their imminent victory here, mere days after the humiliation of Adelaide.

India has so dominated this Test that the biggest cheer on day three was not raised until the last over. It was for the boundary that meant India would have to bat again.
