The body of a man on holiday from Victoria has been found in a Gold Coast canal after the victim and a group of friends went for a Tuesday morning swim.
Police were called to the waterway near Sunshine Boulevard and Hooker Boulevard in Broadbeach Waters about 5.30am after reports three people had gone into the water and one had disappeared.

Within five minutes of the call to emergency services, the first police officer had dived into the water. Nearby surf lifesavers also raced to the scene on jet skis to join the search.
About 9am, police divers recovered the 21-year-old man’s body from the canal, close to where he disappeared. His other friends did not get into difficulties.
