A Chinese national who police say uploaded a video of his encounter with a sex worker to Pornhub without her consent has been granted bail on conditions including that he surrender his passport. Liang Song, 26, fronted the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday. Police documents tendered to the court said he used his English name, Eric, when he reached out to a sex worker on the website Scarlet Blue in July last year. The documents said the sex worker agreed to meet Mr Song for sex, and also agreed he could film the encounter in exchange for an extra $300. The documents said the sex worker made it clear Mr Song was not to distribute the video, and sent him a text message to that effect, saying: “Also just a note that the video is for personal use only, to be recorded on a phone no tripods, and I will get you to sign a nondisclosure also XX.” The documents said Mr Song responded “okay”. They said when the pair met at a hotel on July 24, the sex worker reminded Mr Song twice more that he was not to distribute the video. About a month later, the sex worker logged onto Pornhub having heard she was depicted in a video on the website, and found a video of herself and Mr Song. She reported the video to the website so it could be taken down. In September, the sex worker gave a screen recording of the video to Queensland police. In the documents, police said ACT officers executed a search warrant on Thursday at Mr Song’s Braddon unit, where they found copies of the video. They said Mr Song was logged into a Pornhub account with a similar username to what the video was uploaded under, and had records of paying the sex worker. A bail consideration form tendered in court said the sex worker felt “extremely threatened and exposed” after the incident, and worried Mr Song might seek retribution against her. Prosecutor Isabella Coker on Friday said police were worried Mr Song was a flight risk, but Special Magistrate Margaret Hunter said that risk could be ameliorated by strict bail conditions. She granted Mr Song bail on conditions including that he surrender his passport, not be within 100 metres of a point of international departure, remain in the ACT and give $1000 security to comply with his bail conditions. Mr Song did not enter a plea to one count of distributing intimate image without consent. He will next appear in court on February 2.
