Police are searching for a stolen Marley Spoon van after the delivery driver was carjacked at knifepoint in Walker Street, Narrabundah in the early hours of Monday morning. The delivery driver had been conducting customer deliveries in the Narrabundah and Griffith areas when the incident occurred. These delivery drivers usually operate between midnight and 7am. Companies like Marley Spoon and Hello Fresh are subscription-type services, which deliver the products and pre-selected recipes from which a meal can be prepared. Hundreds of boxes are delivered around Canberra and the region region every week, usually in the early hours of the morning. A Melbourne-based company called Home Delivery Services is contracted by Marley Spoon to provide the door-to-door delivery. Marley Spoon started in Germany in August 2014 and expanded to Australia a little over a year later. It is a publicly listed company in Australia and has now spun off a second brand, Dinnerly, for cost-conscious consumers. There has been a significant rise in demand for these home-delivered food services since the COVID-19 pandemic began last year. Police are yet to provide confirmation of the details of the incident but there was a police presence in Narrabundah on Monday morning, with officers conducting interviews and attempting to find out more information. It is understood the driver was not injured during the carjacking. If anyone has seen an abandoned Marley Spoon van or has any information which could assist the police, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
