A teenager airlifted to a Sydney hospital has died after being hit by a car in the Southern Highlands on Friday night. About 10.20pm, emergency services responded to reports two pedestrians had been hit by a Toyota Corolla on the Old Hume Highway at Mittagong. Police were told a vehicle stopped in a lane on the highway before two teenagers exited the car, NSW Police said in a statement on Saturday. A 16-year-old girl was treated at the scene by paramedics before she was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition. The girl died in hospital, NSW Police said in a statement on Saturday afternoon. A 16-year-old boy was treated at the scene for leg injuries, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in an ambulance. He was in a stable condition, NSW police said. Police established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic police. Inquiries into the incident continue. The Toyota driver, a 42-year-old man, was not injured and taken to Bowral Hospital for mandatory testing. He has been released pending further inquiries. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
