There is no denying that she has the class win at country level. McCabe’s only reservation is that she missed a second barrier trial, so resuming over 1375m will be a test of her fitness levels more than anything.
“That’s the only thing that worries me, but she has been in a while and has done plenty of swimming. She isn’t really a 1200m horse, so the trip suits,” he said.
“In the trial that she did have, she went to the line under a hold and the winner of that trial [Cardiff] is a smart horse.”
McCabe also gave punters the leg-up that stablemate I Stole Your Love isn’t generally a first-up performer and will improve with the run.
Meanwhile, McCabe’s talented gelding The Drover is back in work after a short break. and the Bathurst-based trainer is eyeing off a TAB Highway Handicap first up with the improving four-year-old.
Elsewhere on the card, Joe Cleary looks to have found the perfect race for six-year-old Up Trumpz to chalk up an overdue sixth career win.
He had no luck at Gilgandra over 1000m first up before doing his best work late at Canterbury five weeks ago.
Kept fresh since, this looks a third-up target for the son of Zariz and, from a perfect draw with plenty of speed up front and Blaike McDougall steering, he shouldn’t have any excuses.
