ACT Policing officers have located the body of missing 21-year-old man Alex Coppinger. The body was found adjacent to Paddys River Road in Paddys River. Mr Coppinger’s death was the territory’s first road fatality of 2021. Mr Coppinger was last seen on January 17 after leaving to ride his motorcycle west of Canberra. Police located the body after a search in the Tidbinbilla area overnight. Acting Superintendent road policing Marcus Boorman said police believed the fatal collision occurred on Sunday. “It appears he was riding his motorcycle and for some reason left the road in a collision,” Acting Superintendent Boorman said. “I’m not going to pre-empt what the cause of the collision was, that is yet to be determined.” Acting Superintendent Boorman said Canberrans should be cautious when driving on country roads. “I say it all the time, one death on the road is too many,” he said. “We just hope and aim to have zero road fatalities.” A report will be prepared for the coroner and ACT Policing Major Collision Team will continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with dash-cam footage or information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Those providing information can do so anonymously and should quote reference 6716436.
