Community Housing Queensland has filed plans for a new two-building, 40-unit complex on central Southport’s Queen Street.The complex has been put forward by the not-for-profit organisation to house “vulnerable and low-to-moderate income” over-55s.

“The proposed development provides an integrated complex that will provide an important housing opportunity to support residents requiring housing assistance,” a planning report on the project said.“The proposed development provides a functional layout that preserves the amenity and privacy of existing adjoining residents.”

The houses on the 1887sq m site, which borders Queen and Pohlman streets, have been demolished to make way for the seven-storey project.A two-building design was selected to allow for greater sunlight and breezes into the area.The project will go before the council for approval in early 2021.It comes just three months after Community Housing Queensland put forward a two-storey project in Southport’s Eugaree Street.That seven-unit complex is proposed for a 586sq m site and will replace an existing two-unit house.
