The Freedman’s unveiled a talented youngster at Royal Randwick and the stable will now aim higher with their Extreme Choice colt.
Richard and Michael Freedman unearthed a two-year-old that will do what is required to get to richer juvenile races this autumn – improve out of sight.
Stay Inside scored a dominant 2¾ length win at Randwick Saturday which surprised Michael Freedman a little.
“I didn’t expect him to put a decent gap in them like he did. He does have a lovely action though,” he said.
“He certainly learned a lot from his first two trials and he was quite wayward in both of them.
“Even though he needed a bit of encouragement in his trials but Tommy (Berry) said it wasn’t because he needed to but because he needed to keep his mind on the job.”

Robbie Dolan was lucky enough to pick up the ride and he put Stay Inside into a lovely spot just in behind the leaders and was able to produce him at the right time.
Headliner was back to his inside and trying to make ground while Ashema was doing her best after a taxing run when caught deep.
But they all had to chase as Stay Inside gave a further kick and put the race to bed.
“He still had a bit of a look around when he hit the front today but he really quickened up well,” Freedman said.
“I said to a few of the owners that I probably would’ve preferred today to be over 1100m but it obviously didn’t matter in the end.
“Robbie found a good spot and gave him a perfect ride and I think he’s got a good future.”
Stay Inside is by Extreme Choice, who has been good to the Freedman stable.
“I wish they were making a few more of them. I’ve had two two-year-old’s to the races this season and both are by Extreme Choice,” Freedman said.
Stay Inside was bred by Denman nursery Kingstar Farm and was sold for $200,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.
The colt is one of just 48 live foals from the first crop of the Blue Diamond and Moir Stakes winner, out of a mare by Alec Head’s French champion sprinter and Widden Stud success, Anabaa.
The Freedman’s have done their bit to send Extreme Choice into ‘boom sire’ territory having won at Randwick with another of his sons in Tiger Of Malay.
Stay Inside ran sizzling time to win his debut but balances his speed with some genuine stamina via his grand-dam who is a daughter of VRC Derby winner and Melbourne Cup runner-up, Nothin’ Leica Dane.
“We’ve always had a decent opinion of him. He probably hasn’t been totally obvious and he’s one of those two-year-old’s who has got better then longer he’s been in work,” Freedman said.
“If he comes through today all right we can probably aim a bit higher with him. He’s very professional. He didn’t turn a hair today and he paraded well today which is always a good sign with these young colts.”
Stay Inside firmed in from $101 to $26 for the Golden Slipper and Dolan said he had the right attitude to go on to bigger things.
‘’He still does a couple of things wrong but he has got plenty of improvement and he is with a good stable there that will help bring him on, he’s done very well,” Dolan said.
“It panned out well. I kind of ended up in the position I thought I would be in. He showed natural gate speed in his trials and he jumped well, it was just a matter of getting him to come back and relax which he did.
“The kind of went a little bit too steady in front of me then which entitled me to having to prop and bring myself into the race and probably hit the front too soon but I reckon it is all ahead of him’’
“He has got a great attitude, he jumps and puts himself in the race and was able to come back and switch off and when I asked him for an effort in the straight he really gave me a really electric turn of foot.”
