Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway is closed in both directions near Doncaster after a “significant” truck fire sparked traffic chaos.
All lanes of the freeway are closed between Doncaster Road and Tram Road after the truck, which is believed to have been carrying toilet paper among other products, exploded in flames near the Elgar Road exit ramp.

Chris Miller from the Department of Transport told radio station 3AW the flames looked like they were reaching “20 to 30 feet” – six to nine metres – in the air.
“It’s well alight with billowing black smoke right across the Eastern Freeway,” he said.
