A portrait of actor Geoffrey Rush has been spotted as missing from an official display of past winners of Australian of the Year award. The display at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Civic features photos of each winner of the award since 1960. However, images seen by The Canberra Times show the portrait of Rush, who was awarded the honour in 2012 for his contribution to the arts, being omitted from the display. While the portrait of Rush was seen as part of the display on Monday night, his photo was noticed as missing about 1pm on Australia Day. The Australia Day Council has said Rush’s portrait was not intentionally removed as part of the display of former winners and has since been replaced. The list of winners were featured at the Crowne Plaza due to the hotel hosting all of this year’s Australian of the Year nominees and their guests before Monday night’s award ceremony at the National Arboretum. A portrait of this year’s Australian of the Year winner, Grace Tame, was added to the display of recipients following her award win.
