ACT Police will be involved given the park falls under the Commonwealth’s jurisdiction.
An ACT Police spokesperson said the cause of the fire was being investigated by NSW Rural Fire Service arson investigators.
“The investigation is expected to be handed over to Police once the RFS has completed their investigation.”
A Parks Australia spokesperson, which manages the area, said it remained closed to visitors.
“The situation will be reassessed tomorrow, Thursday 28 January 2021, however Cave Beach Road will be closed until further notice due to safety concerns from fire damage.”
A statement posted on the park’s Facebook page on Tuesday night said: “We would like to thank the local emergency services, Wreck Bay fire brigade and park staff for their outstanding efforts to bring the fire under control.”
“We would also like to thank [the] community and visitors for their understanding and prompt response to evacuation measures.”
Police urge anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity or have information about the fire, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
