MOTORCYCLIST DETECTED AT 101 KM/H OVER SPEED LIMIT
A 25-year-old Longford man has been arrested and had his motorbike seized after being caught riding 101km/h over the speed limit in Wellington Street, Longford on Tuesday January 26.According to Tasmania Police, the young man was detected riding a black Suzuki motorcycle at 161km/h in a 60km/h zone. The motorcycle evaded police at the time but was located at Longford address soon after with help from the public.Police confirmed the man was unlicensed and his motorcycle was unregistered.He was arrested and charged with numerous traffic offences including speeding and evade police. His motorcycle was also seized by police for six months.Constable Chris Jackson from Campbell Town Police the rider of the motorcycle showed little regard for the broader public by travelling at such a high speed on such a busy street.“I would like to thank the members of the public for their assistance in locating the rider who may not have been located before his behaviour had a potentially disastrous outcome,” he said.
