TAFE is offering free courses to 2020 HSC graduates so they can learn practical skills to help them land a job. Course include cybersecurity and healthcare.
Higher School Certificate graduates looking to get a leg up in their career will be able to access online free courses where they can learn practical skills in a bid to help them land a job.
Under the expanded scheme, students who finished their HSC last year can study healthcare, business administration skills and cybersecurity.
The Summer Skills program was launched in November 2020 and has been expanded to include seven TAFE NSW online short courses targeting school leavers from last year.
Students have until February to complete the courses.
NSW Vocational Education Minister Geoff Lee said the courses were aligned to local industry needs.
“We need to provide the opportunities that help school leavers find their feet in these uncertain times,” he said. “That’s why we’re delivering practical and fee-free training opportunities commencing this summer.”
The new courses are paid for out of $320 million earmarked by the government to deliver 100,000 fee-free training places across the state.
“There are more than 100,000 fee-free training places available through TAFE NSW and approved providers for people across NSW to re-skill, retrain and redeploy to growth areas in a post COVID-19 economy,” Mr Lee said.
“We are not training for the sake of training, we are training for real jobs with real futures and equipping the people of NSW with the skills they need to thrive in a post-pandemic economy.”
Other courses on offer include training in mental health, construction materials and work health and safety, and an introduction to business skills.
