People travelling to Perth Airport will need to complete a G2G pass declaration, have no COVID-19 symptoms and accept a temperature and COVID-19 test upon arrival at the airport if required.
Those travelling by land will also need to fill in a G2G pass declaration specifying what states they have travelled to in the last 14 days and undergo a health assessment by border staff.
Mr McGowan said the decision was based on the latest health advice from Chief Health Officer Andy Robertson and was subject to change if any new cases emerged in other states.
The Premier has previously stated he would not hesitate to put stricter border controls in place if outbreaks appeared in other jurisdictions.
“Our journey through this pandemic is not over yet despite now normal life in WA may seem,” he said. “Let’s keep it up.”
Health Minister Roger Cook said a new coronavirus case arrived in the state from overseas every day, adding it was crucial to prevent those cases from breaking out into the community.
There are currently seven active cases of the new overseas strains of the virus in Perth hotel quarantine, six from the UK variant and one from the South African strain.
An additional seven people in hotel quarantine have returned positive COVID-19 tests, bringing the state’s total number of active cases up to 15.
“We do have people come back from overseas, we participate in the national program to bring Australians home,” Mr McGowan said.
“But they are contained in our hotel quarantine system, their health is being managed and we prevent the virus from getting out of the virus.”
