Greg Longmore was mixing gin at Adams Distillery in Perth on Tuesday when the liquid caught fire, suffering partial and full thickness burns to his hands, face and legs covering about 50% of his body.
Mr Longmore’s sister Samantha Walmsley has launched a crowd-funding campaign to help Greg, his wife Erin and two daughters “start the long road for recovery”.“Greg was going about his normal work activities when a workplace accident occurred and resulted in a fire. Greg was airlifted to Hobart where he remains in an induced coma in ICU in Hobart Burns Unit,” Samantha’s campaign says. She added that Mr Longmore would require several operations and skin grafts.“As they are a young family, keeping Greg’s girls looked after will ease the stresses allowing Erin to focus on being their for Greg to come home,” the campaign says.
The GoFundMe has already raised about $19,000 as of 2.30pm Wednesday, with major wineries, whisky makers and Mr Longmore’s golf club sharing well wishes.Kel Clark from the Longford Golf Course — where Mr Longford reportedly holds the course record — posted a message to fellow golfers asking for their support.“If you have heard to news of an explosion at Adams Distillery in Perth, the man involved was top golfer Greg Longmore,” Kel said.“He has suffered severe burns to 40% of his body including face, hands and he is in an induced coma in the ICU in Hobart as they are monitoring his lungs as well.“He will require some considerable time in hospital and several operations. Please add him to any prayers …”
Josef Chromy Wines also shared the fundraiser on their social media.
An investigation is under way into the distillery fire, but estimates are it caused between $1.5 million to $2 million damage.
