Love it or hate it, Married at First Sight is returning – with a bride and a groom from Canberra. Local hairdresser turned property developer Samantha Harvey has made the cut in 2021. HIT 104.7 radio announcer Bryce Ruthven will also be making waves as one of the grooms in the eighth season of the reality TV show that’s meant to be about finding love as you marry a stranger. Samantha, 31, is a divorced mum of two boys “juggling her career as a successful property developer in a male-dominated industry” according to publicity for the Channel Nine juggernaut. “She describes her looks as a “little bit of Aussie bogan” and is equally at home on the power tools or camping with her sons. “In relationships, she is the dominant one who is confident and knows what she wants in life and in a man – if they don’t tick all the boxes, she is out.” Bryce, also 31, ended his engagement but wants to settle down with kids and “the white picket fence”. “An alpha-type male who can come across as cocky, Bryce is opinionated and outspoken, and it doesn’t bother him at all,” so the publicity for the show goes. “A footy bloke never shy to speak his mind, other guys tend to be intimidated by him. And if Bryce can see a way to benefit from that, he’ll use it…. His ideal girl is adventurous, attractive and loves sport. He’s in the experiment to ‘do whatever it takes to make love blossom’.” No hints yet about whether the two Canberrans end up matched. The eighth season of Married at First Sight starts on Monday, February 22 at 7.30pm on Nine and 9Now.
