“The squad will be permitted to train and play, and will adhere to current Victorian lockdown conditions while in Sydney as per NSW government requirements.

“The squad is scheduled to depart Melbourne on Sunday morning ahead of their first Marsh one-day Cup fixture on Monday against NSW at North Sydney Oval.”

Cricket NSW has said that a maximum of 1000 spectators will be allowed to attend Monday’s match but supporters must have redeemed their free tickets via the Ticketek website before they will be allowed into the venue.

The two states are also due to meet in the next round of Shield matches, beginning February 25 at the MCG, and the plans at this stage are for that clash to proceed.

The first-class and Marsh Cup programs were revised on the eve of the summer because of border restrictions. The Marsh Cup, to have been held at the start of the season, was shifted to February, while the Shield season began in a bubble in South Australia.

Quarantine issues meant the Vics played only two matches, a competition low, while NSW managed three matches. There needs to be seven matches played by all states, with each state facing each other once, for the Shield to be awarded.

The aborted Test tour of South Africa means several of Australia’s highest-profile players will have an extended stint with their states although the expected start of the Indian Premier League in the second week of April will see some leave early.
