Meanwhile, traffic on Toorak and St Kilda roads stopped as the demonstrators, about 1000-strong, moved to the streets, chanting “freedom”.

After marching to Commercial Road, protesters again gathered at Fawkner Park. As the formal demonstration ended, protesters scattered across the park, invading three cricket games.
Police made several arrests on the cricket field.
