The Black Opal is Canberra’s big race day, not least for the fashion, and the fashions on the field competition will be going ahead on Sunday. The finalists have already been selected via Instagram and the grand final will be held on course at Thoroughbred Park on Sunday from 2.40pm. The judges had been seeking “a nod to autumn tradition, elegance and innovation” in the outfits. The winners will share in a prize pool worth more than $5000. Gates open from 11.30am on Sunday, with local racing from 1.20pm. The Canberra Cup follows at Thoroughbred Park on Monday, with a family day and kids’ activities.
