“He’s allowed thousands of people to come in to play the Australian Open and he’s locked out his own residents.
“I don’t want western Sydney to be treated as second-class citizens and I will always stand up for my community because I’m very proud of what Fairfield has achieved. We’ve had the virus before and overcome it.”
Travel restrictions remain in place for large swathes of NSW that have not recorded a coronavirus case for months despite an Andrews government move to relax the hard border closure for people in some parts of Sydney.
Parts of Sydney’s “red zone” were downgraded to orange and all border towns became green zones from 6pm on Monday, paving the way for some Victorians now stranded in NSW to return home without special exemptions.
Mr Carbone said the Victorian Premier is in danger of losing the trust of people who are unable to return due to the harsh border measures.
“He hasn’t looked at the facts. It is unfounded. We don’t have any cases in Fairfield and we don’t have any cases in some of the other local government areas,” Mr Carbone said.
“But I think the real issue here is that when you are Premier of a state, you need to have people’s confidence and trust. I think by premiers making these decisions, they are inconsistent, I think they are going to lose the confidence of the community.”
