Alexei Navalny arrived at the Moscow City Court ahead of his hearing on February 2, footage released by the court’s press service showed. The hearing was to consider a motion by the federal prison authority to replace a controversial 2014 suspended sentence handed to Alexei Navalny with a jail term, TASS reported. Allies of Navalny called on his supporters to gather outside the court on Tuesday morning, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty said. Some arrests were reported. More than 5,000 demonstrators were arrested across Russia on January 31, as they took to the streets to call for Navalny’s release, according to the human rights watchdog OVDInfo.org.
