Argentines celebrated in the streets of Buenos Aires on December 11, after the country’s lower house of Congress voted to legalize abortion. The bill, which follows two years after a similar effort that failed, would allow the termination of pregnancies up until 14 weeks. Its passage in the lower house was tight — after nearly a day of debate it was approved by a vote of 131-117. The law enjoys the support of President Alberto Fernandez, but still needs to be approved by the country’s Senate. This video taken on Friday shows supporters holding green scarves associated with the pro-choice movement in front of Congress in Buenos Aires. They erupt in celebration as the lower house’s final vote is announced. Credit: Galia Moldavsky via Storyful
