Kenin breaks again, will serve for first set
Kenin looked back on top of her return game to break Inglis and make it 6-5 and earning her chance to serve for the first set.
She sent Inglis all over the court in that game despite the Aussie having serve and it resulted in some forced errors as she won with a breakpoint left to spare.
But Kenin’s serve has been far from convincing, Inglis will give herself a chance to break back and force a tie-break.
Kenin draws level
Kenin was again on the front foot in that service game and didn’t shirk the issue when Inglis hit to her forehand.
She won the game giving up just one point and they are now tied 5-5 first set.
Inglis holds serve despite Kenin pressure
Kenin came for Inglis and her serve that game but she couldn’t break the brave Aussie.
Kenin managed to win an 18-shot rally in the middle of that point and also avoided a potentially serious injury by not putting full pressure in her foot when her ankle started to roll, a slo-mo television replay showed the moment in painful clarity.
Kenin had a breakpoint at 30-40 but Inglis won a rousing point to force deuce, Kenin earned a second breakpoint soon after but Inglis served wide and she hit her return out.
Inglis came up with an ace next point and completed the game when Kenin hit into the net. Very impressive from Inglis so far.

Kenin firing up as choppers circle
Kenin didn’t mess around that game holding her serve to love and giving the young Aussie no chances to hit winners.
This could be a signal to Inglis that she is about to put on the afterburners and lift the intensity of her play.
Both players are staying composed despite one or possibly more helicopters flying in the vicinity of the stadium and making a lot of noise.
It’s 4-4 in the first set.
Inglis holds again
Inglis is really sticking to her guns in this set and pushing the ball to Kenin’s forehand and the US star isn’t able to hit the winners she usually does.
Inglis held serve again that game to lead 4-3 and now focus turns to whether she can take the game to Kenin while she serves.
Kenin holds serve, Inglis rues missed chances
Maddison Inglis has had her chances to put some pressure on Sofia Kenin in this last game but she hit a couple of potential forehand winners wide of the mark and allowed Kenin to make it 3-3.
Kenin breaks back!
Sofia Kenin wasn’t down for long after dropping her service game to young Aussie Maddison Inglis as she broke back in the next game to make it 3-2 to Inglis with Kenin to serve.
Inglis was looking to make the most of her break but she couldn’t make the ground strokes of Kenin and smashed a shot out to concede the break.
This is a very close contest on Rod Laver Arena.
Inglis breaks Kenin!
Inglis gave herself every opportunity to break Kenin’s serve that game taking a 0-40 lead after some uncharacteristically poor shots from Kenin.
The No 4 seed briefly fought back but Inglis was patient and came to the net to power a shoulder height forehand for the break and a 3-1 lead.
Inglis keeps pace with Kenin
These games have moved pretty quickly so far and Inglis is holding her serve to lead 2-1 in the opening set.
Kenin has looked every bit as damaging with her own serve but she has yet to pick up the pace with her returns.

Kenin has held serve and didn’t look too fussed with the returns from Inglis.
Pressure is now back on Inglis to keep up with the reigning champion.
