A man will fight charges including attempted murder after allegedly fleeing to Tasmania while he was wanted over a stabbing in Canberra’s south. Police on the island state arrested Ashleigh Wayne Wilson, 33, in Hobart on February 4. The Richardson man was subsequently extradited to the ACT to face serious charges over a violent incident that occurred on October 1 last year. ACT Policing has previously said that on that date, a 23-year-old man turned up at a service station in Chisholm with stab wounds to his neck, legs and hands. Investigators believe the man sought help there after being attacked in the car park of the Erindale Scout Hall in Gowrie. Wilson, who was the first person charged over the incident, made his second appearance in the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday. He listened over the phone from the Alexander Maconochie Centre, where he is being held in custody, as his lawyer Bowan Shelton entered pleas of not guilty to charges of attempted murder and aggravated robbery. While Wilson will defend those allegations, he pleaded guilty to a string of unrelated driving offences that included exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. He also admitted a charge of failing to appear in court while on bail last year. Mr Shelton told the court on Wednesday that the prosecution had deemed the attempted murder case “a major matter”, and it would consequently require a lengthy adjournment. Magistrate James Lawton therefore remanded Wilson in custody until April 27, when the more serious charges will be mentioned and Wilson will be sentenced for the driving and failing to appear offences. A second man, Andrew James Francis Beath-Williams, is also charged with attempted murder and aggravated robbery over the October 2020 incident in Gowrie. The 23-year-old has not entered pleas and, like Wilson, has been remanded in custody since his arrest after declining to apply for bail. He is due to appear in court again on March 4.
