Gusty winds, ominous grey skies and a few scattered rain drops didn’t hinder the fun at the shores of Lake Burley Griffin on Tuesday. Hundreds headed out to the six hubs installed around the lake as part of the COVID-friendly Great Aussie Picnic. Each area has its own theme, like jazz and Aussie rock, and has food trucks and licenced bars, expect for the Ankle Biters hub for young children. Picnic blankets scattered the lawns stretching from the Aspen Island to Commonwealth Park and police were patrolling the area. While for many the day was a chance to relax and spend time with family, hundreds of Canberrans attended the Invasion Day rally at Parliament house, protesting Australia Day.
