Bernard Tomic has withdrawn from the Murray River Open citing a knee injury and now appears likely to start the Australian Open next week with no match practice.
Tomic was set to face Australian compatriot Marc Polmans on Monday night in a first-round clash but was replaced by Harry Bourchier.
The 28-year-old Tomic’s call to withdraw from the grand slam tune-up was a surprise to some after he posted a video of himself playing basketball to Instagram earlier in the day, with the caption “Ball or tennis?”
Tomic potentially could have faced another compatriot, Nick Kyrgios, in the second round of the Murray River Open if both players had won their opening round matches.
