A 12-year-old boy who had been reported missing from the Riverina region has been found safe and well, police say.

Earlier, an Amber alert was issued for Dasean Kroon, who was seen leaving his school in Culcairn, a town on the Olympic Highway between Wagga Wagga and Albury, at noon on Tuesday.

Police had said the boy was believed to be in the company of his mother Tracy Rush, 36, who was known to frequent the Wagga Wagga area.

On Wednesday night, police said the boy “has been safely located safe and well about 10pm tonight … in Lake Macquarie”.

“Police would like to thank the public and members of the media for their assistance in relation to this matter,” police said.

“Investigations are ongoing and no further information is available at this stage.”
