The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the Canberra region, cautioning large hail and damaging winds will likely hit on Monday afternoon. Storms were forecast on Monday with the Bureau escalating the warning just after midday to include the ACT and surrounding areas. The storm was detected near Mount Grudgenby and Bredbo and was moving east. “They are forecast to affect Tuggeranong, South Canberra, Weston Creek and Woden Valley by 1.05 pm and Belconnen, Canberra Civic, Queanbeyan, Hall, Gungahlin and Canberra Airport by 1.35pm,” the Bureau said. Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely. People are advised to move their car under cover or away from trees, secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony and stay indoors. A thunderstorm asthma warning has also been issued by ACT health authorities, as pollen levels remain high throughout the week.
