A Canberra man rammed a police car then hid in some bushes while trying to escape officers, police say. Police said they responded to reports a car was driving erratically on Belconnen Way, Weetangera, about 2.30pm Sunday. “Shortly after, a police patrol located the vehicle idling in the driveway of a residence in Scullin and parked their vehicle across the driveway before attempting to speak with the man in the driver’s seat,” police said in a statement. “Police will allege that when confronted, the man fled the scene by reversing at speed down the driveway into the passenger side of the police vehicle while one officer was still inside.” An officer tried to use his or her taser on the man, but did not hit him. “The vehicle was located abandoned a short distance from the collision where the man was arrested hiding in nearby bushes,” police said. Police said they arrested a 27-year-old Watson man and he is expected to face court on Monday. “The man was on bail at the time of his arrest and will face eight additional criminal charges including failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, drug driving, damaging a police vehicle, leaving the scene of a collision, using registration plates not properly issued for a vehicle, unlawful possession of stolen property and driving without ever having held a licence,” police said.
