The video taken on a driver’s dashcam on Monday afternoon recorded the close call which played out on Nathan St in Aitkenvale when a ute merged unexpectedly across two lanes. The ute crossed from the right lane, through two other lanes and into the turn off to Tom’s Tavern and a number of other businesses about 4.25pm, almost taking out a scooter in the process. A witness to the close call told the Bulletin she watched as the ute crossed lanes and thought “for sure” that it had hit the rider as it pulled into parking lot. “The HiLux, a red P-plater, literally just put his blinker on and pulled in front of me,” she said. “The scooter was in the merging lane beside me on the other side. “I swear the scooter was millimetres from the side of the HiLux.”Miraculously, the scooter driver swerved at the last moment managing to avoid a crash which could have ended in serious injury. The person who captured the moment on camera said she was glad her dashcam did not record sound as the “scary” moment played out in front of her eyes, saying a few choice words might have escaped. The Bulletin contacted Queensland Police and a spokeswoman said there was no record of a call for service on that road.
